The challenge

Cement production has the highest CO2 footprint per euro of turnover. As the CO2 price continues to rise in the E.U., producers are increasingly getting squeezed in an industry defined by its low margins. Raw materials typically used to as substitutes for CO2-intensive cement clinker in such as granulated blast furnace slag and fly ash are, however, becoming increasingly scarce around the world. In order to remain competitive under these circumstances, cement manufacturers will have to adapt their product portfolio drastically and at an unprecedented rate. Customers, on the other hand, continue to demand consistent quality. Managing this change and meeting customer requirements at the same time means considerable additional work for the quality and production teams.

Our solution

Our software in cement enables continuous analysis of quality-relevant data from chemistry, mineralogy and particle size distribution. Our intelligent algorithms then forecast quality parameters, calculate target values to optimize current cement production and feed them back into the manufacturing process. This optimized system enables cement producers to reduce their energy costs, maximize alternative fuel rates and produce challenging low-CO2 cements, all while maintaining extremely consistent quality.
