The creators of The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077 have announced that their online store, GOG, will not be available for these countries as a show of support for the people of Ukraine.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused the rejection of much of the international community and also some of the most important video game companies in the world with, for example, EA withdrawing the Russian team and all its teams from FIFA 22 .
Now the movement has been carried out by two other important studios such as CD Projekt and Bloober Team that have decided that their games are not available in Russia and Belarus as a protest against the invasion of the Ukrainian country, contacting digital so that they do not allow the sale of The Witcher , Cyberpunk 2077 , The Medium in these countries.
In the case of CD Projekt, the movement is more significant since, in addition to preventing the sale of its original games, the Polish studio owns GOG , one of the most important online stores in the world, which immediately stops operating in the Russian and Belarusian countries, prohibiting the sale of any title through its platform. In this sense, CD Projekt admits that ” the players from Russia and Belarus have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine and will be affected by this decision, but with this action we want to increase the pressure on the international community to talk about what is happening in the heart of Europe .”
STALKER 2 development stalled
Another of the triggers of this invasion is that the shooter STALKER 2 from the Ukrainian studio GSC Game World has paralyzed its development , prioritizing helping all employees and their families to survive this warlike conflict.
” On February 24, Russia declared war on Ukraine and sent rockets, tanks and soldiers to our motherland. Our country is forced to fight for its existence, again. It seems that this is the price of freedom , “they comment from the study. ” Now we strive to help our employees and their families to survive. The development of the game has taken a backseat. But we will definitely continue. After the victory. Glory to Ukraine .”
