According to video game data analyst Millie Amand , there is a slight problem with Hogwarts Legacy . The first original open world game based on the world of Harry Potter was unveiled in 2020 and is currently scheduled for 2022. However, the title seems to have completely disappeared from the scene and it is Amand who gives us a pretty clear indication of what would happen in Warner Bros. and why there is some silence around the title .
Amand expressed his opinion in a tweet launched on the Italian night. Hogwarts Legacy would be practically ready, including promotional assets of course. He would only expect the approval of Warner Bros. which, however, would not be arriving for a very specific reason: the publisher fears a backlash due to JK Rowling’s positions on the LGBTQ + community and beyond. The minds would be quite tense and there is talk of a climate of concern and hesitation in the offices.
Over the past few years, JK Rowling (writer and author of the Harry Potter saga) has expressed very worrying positions towards transgender people. Rowling was then the signatory of a letter, which targets a phantom cancel culture that would deprive people of saying their opinion on very important issues, such as sexual freedom and gender. His positions have been very aggressive and have (rightly) sparked uprisings in the LGBTQ + community. So it’s no wonder that Warner Bros. is currently thinking about when to launch the Hogwarts Legacy trailer.
However, what Amand submitted will also be reflected in the future. Warner Bros. is perfectly aware that the backlash will come from the community anyway. The problem is that the situation does not seem to be unblocked. At this point, therefore, a possible presentation to the TGA 2021 is to be excluded, except for a change of program in progress.
