The Nintendo team would be focused on the next installment of Mario Kart while the Mario Kart 8 DLC would be developed by Bandai Namco according to a leaker.
During the latest Nintendo Direct announcements , it was revealed that 48 new tracks are coming as DLC to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe , with the first batch of eight tracks arriving on March 18 and the last arriving in late 2023.
This news meant that many fans lost the illusion that Nintendo is working on a new installment of Mario Kart. However, a well-known Japanese company leaker, called Zippo , claimed that the DLC would be developed by Bandai Namco and that the core Mario Kart team would be creating the new installment of the racing game.
“I heard shortly after the Direct that this DLC is being done entirely by Bandai Namco, EPD has little to no involvement in this as work continues on the next Mario Kart ,” said Zippo.
Unfortunately, this is the only information the leaker gave away. However, fans can take comfort in the fact that the recent announcement of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe does not mean that Mario Kart 9 is not in the plans for the Japanese developer. Similarly, this leak should be taken with caution like any other information that is unofficial or does not come from Nintendo.
For now, fans will have to make do with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and the next 48 tracks from previous versions of Mario Kart, which can be purchased for $24.99 or a Nintendo Switch Online subscription + Expansion Pack.
