The actor confesses that he has not played the video game and that he wanted to keep a safe distance from the version of the character that we met on PS3 and PS4.
The television series adaptation of The Last of Us , which HBO is working on, is one of the most ambitious and anticipated projects based on video games in the coming months . Now, Pedro Pascal, the actor who will play Joel on the small screen, has explained that he has wanted to maintain a certain safety distance from the video game in order to interpret his own version of his character.

In fact, he has commented that he has not played the video game, because he does not think he has the necessary skills for it, although he has seen his nephew play it: “I watched for as long as I was able to that day, and then I had to leave Florida,” he recalled. I found Joel so impressive – I found the whole of it such a visually impressive experience. And then I got worried that I would want to imitate too much, which I think could be right in some circumstances, and then a mistake in others.”
” So I just wanted to create a healthy distance, and for that to be more in the hands of Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.”
Additionally, Pascal has dropped that the script for the series may not be exactly the same as the one for the game , although there will be plenty of winks and an attempt will be made to maintain the essence of what made it such an acclaimed and memorable work. “And then directions that you would expect it to go, and it might not… they’re doing some really smart things, is all I can say.” he concluded.
The Last of Us is a production that is being carried out by HBO and PlayStation Productions , while the main people in charge of the project are Craig Mazin (the creator of Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog and director of the two video games of The Last of Us .
In it they will tell us again the journey of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone to reach a research center . And all this set 20 years after the infectious outbreak of a fungus turned much of humanity into monstrous zombies. Its premiere will not take place this year.
