Valve has officially confirmed that it does not intend to develop exclusive games for Steam Deck. The corporation has a few strong IPs that could entice players to a portable platform, but the company does not want to make exclusive production.
Steam Deck suffered a delay and the platform will not reach players until 2022, but Valve is still answering important questions and wanting to present details about the device. The corporation decided to update its own FAQ, in which it confirmed an important news – portable PC will not receive exclusive titles:
No, that doesn’t make much sense to us. It’s a PC and it should just play games like a PC.
On the one hand, it makes the most sense, because Valve can still release games “exclusively” for its platform (Steam), so it does not have to develop additional titles only for Steam Deck – this way the corporation does not divide its community … On the other hand, some players could definitely reach for the equipment to play, for example, in the spin-off of the Half-Life series.
It’s worth noting, however, that the lack of exclusive games doesn’t mean that Valve doesn’t believe in Steam Deck’s success. The company has already confirmed that it intends to strongly focus on the development of the device .
